How to snog someone
Kissing can be both exhilarating and terrifying. Everyone makes it look so easy, but what if you’re the one person who can’t snog? Rest assured, you won’t be that person. We’re sure you’ve got all the right moves, but if you need some extra reassurance then The Mix has got your back. So, what is snogging? Read our guide for how to kiss.
What is snogging?
A kiss can be many different things to many different people. The way the Pope puckers up for the tarmac is a world away from the kind of sensual snog that makes your toes curl and heart rate soar. French kissing, as the latter is often called, is a bit of a misleading term. It wasn’t like our Gallic neighbours invented the technique and you certainly don’t have to be fluent in French to qualify. Whether it comes naturally, or with a little practise, a French kiss can say more about your feelings than a volume of love poetry. Things might have been less confusing had it been called Tongue Kissing, but where’s the romance in that?
When to kiss someone
Don’t reserve snogs for the end of the date. If you’re comfortable with the person you’re kissing, and there’s a degree of trust between you, then bring it on beforehand – even out of the blue if it suits. Let’s face it, there’s nothing sexier than having your partner lay one on you without being prompted.
Do they want to kiss you?
So you’re up for a full-on kiss, but how can you be sure they will return the gesture? Some things go without saying, but we’ll say them anyway. You’ll need to brush your teeth beforehand, and if you’re concerned about having bad breath, a breath mint can help give you fresh breath. A little lip balm might not be a bad shout either.
Start your move with some eye contact, glance at their bottom lip and back again, and see how they respond. If they stop blinking, and remind you of a deer in headlights, it may be a good idea to back off, but if they mimic your gesture then you’re ready to start snogging.
How to snog someone
Reality is, your best teacher is experience but we’ll give it a go. Here’s your guide on how to snog.
Your mouths need to be open during a French kiss, so your tongues can connect, but don’t take this too literally and steam in like a dog giving their owner a lick. The urgent bit kicks in later, once your lips have brushed together and it’s clear your partner wants to take things further. Just keep reading their lips though, because if they seem content to keep the kiss at this stage then there’s no need to take it any further..
Snogging with tongues
First job is to open your mouth. Then, think of your tongue as an explorer in unknown territory. Now, you wouldn’t just strut in and hope for the best, would you? No, you’d take it step-by-step, advancing ever so slowly, testing your surroundings and marvelling at the new sensations it brings. As for the native tongue you discover with your own, try to reflect the way it behaves towards you. If you find it hiding at the back, then you’ve probably overstepped the mark, but if it meets you halfway, then simply follow your instinct and desires. Focus on both the lips and tongue. Close your eyes if that feels comfortable, this can make the sensations even more intense.
How to breathe when snogging
Well rule number one is to actually breathe. People often stress out about how to snog someone whilst staying alive a.k.a breathing, and the simple answer is breathe through your nose. With practice, you’ll hone your kissing technique and realise that it’s possible, and even natural, to inhale and exhale through your mouth by taking advantage of any breaks. In some ways that’s the key to being a good kisser. No one is gonna give you an award for the longest time kissing, after all. Plus, if you take a break before you’ve exhausted the moment then you can be sure they’ll soon come back for more.
