Getting set up in your own place

Water bills, TV licence, finding an electricity supplier…. It can all be a bit overwhelming sometimes, but The Mix is here to be your tour guide to the wonderful world of being a functioning member of society (or at least surviving).

From setting up electricity in your new home to our wonderful Home Truths app, you’ll find out how to manage everything from TV licensing to gas bills and boilers right here.

Who to tell when you move house

Having trouble figuring out how to get online in your new place? Or who to tell when you move house? We can help with that, too. And remember, if you find yourself struggling to pay anything, it’s always a good idea to contact your supplier and see if they can help by setting up a payment plan. Ignoring the problem will only make things worse as it could impact your credit score or even end up with bailiffs knocking on your door.

How to handle maintenance

It can be stressful dealing with home repairs and maintenance in your own place, but remember that if you’re renting most of that stuff should be dealt with by your landlord. Make sure you know your rights by checking out our articles on renting.

Settling into your new home

If you’ve just moved, remember that moving is often cited as one of the most stressful life events. Adjusting to a new environment, especially if it’s in a different city or country, can be emotionally challenging. If you need someone to vent to you can always chat about it on our discussion boards or speak to our team.

At The Mix we want to support you getting settled in your own place and making sure you know your rights. Send us a message any time if you would like to chat.

What to pack before you leave home!

Can’t stand one more minute at home? Before you storm out the door, watch Josh from The Mix’s checklist of important things to take with you. Remember that however bad you’re feeling, leaving home is huge decision and one that might not be easy to go back on.
