Counselling from Get Connected

Boy talking on the phone

Get Connected have been offering emotional support to vulnerable children and young people for the last 15 years and year on year we have heard from more and more people in crisis.
Earlier on this year we conducted research with young people across the UK to see if we should be doing more. The answer was a resounding yes!

Now, thanks to funding from the Department of Education, we are developing a short-term, in-house telephone counselling service that’s available to those with no free counselling available near them, and anyone who needs immediate help while they wait to access other services.

Our service is free and confidential just like our regular helpline, and sessions will be with a qualified counsellor who will help you find positive coping strategies. We are still non-judgemental, and our counsellors will work with anyone referred into the service to agree what each young person would like their outcomes to be. We treat you as an individual and you are free to talk about anything you need to – we are led by you.

If you call our helpline about counselling, you won’t have to pick our service – you can still find information about other services in your area as well as nationally, some of which will offer face-to-face counselling if you prefer it. However, if something else isn’t available or you’d rather talk to us, we can quickly assess if our service is suitable for you.

As you work through your weekly sessions, both you and your counsellor will have the option to end sessions if you feel that the service isn’t what you’re looking for or if you find alternative help elsewhere. If you are already seeing a counsellor or therapist, we won’t be able to refer you to our counsellors.

If you think counselling might be for you, get in touch with our helpline to talk through what’s going on for you and we can help you find the right services to help.

This post was originally part of the Get Connected website. YouthNet and Get Connected merged to form The Mix in 2016.
