In a recent poll commissioned by UK youth charity, The Mix, out of the two, the nation has voted in favour of Jeremy Corbyn as their preferred first flatmate beating Cameron by a marginal 2%.

The poll produced by YouGov comes as The Mix launches Home Truths – a free one stop shop tool aimed at helping young people to cope with the pitfalls of independent living, after moving out for the first time.

In the same poll, when asked to choose between the four, Adele and her down-to-earth personality overwhelmingly beat fellow popstars Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Beyonce as the preferred songstress to live with.

Of the 18-24 year olds who responded, 38% preferred Harry Styles as their first flatmate, over Justin Bieber (coming second with 35%) and Zayn Malik lagging as the least preferred with 27%.

Of those who had an opinion, the poll also revealed:

  • When asked to choose between Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo Di Caprio voters were divided, with 51% voting Jennifer and 49% voting Leonardo.
  • On the sports front, Lewis Hamilton ranked top with 45%, Andy Murray in second with 40% and Wayne Rooney in last with 15%

CEO of The Mix, Chris Martin, says: “Although the prospect of a celebrity flatmate is fun, living independently is increasingly becoming a prominent issue for under 25s as they struggle to make that big transition.

Over the past year our services have seen over 203,422 young people seeking help with issues relating to housing and independent living, a 23% increase from the year before. Be it managing a budget, confrontation with a new housemate, unexpected bills or the mould taking over the entire bathroom – we provide that help and support they need.

About the Charity and Services

The Mix (formerly YouthNet and Get Connected) offers multi-issue support to young people under 25. Reaching 1.7 million young people per year, we provide non-judgmental, informal support for any issue a young people olds, under the age of 25, may come up against.

Our new charity aims to reach 2 million young people by 2018; reaching 1 in 4 of the UK’s population of 16-25 year olds.

Young people’s lives can be a challenging mix of highs and lows. Their issues are emotional and intertwined and there is seldom a simple answer when they have a problem.

A ‘one size fits all’ solution isn’t going to cut it. Today’s young people are more complex and con-nected than any generation before them.  They need a blended service delivered on their own terms and through the technology of their choice – that’s where The Mix comes in.

The Mix is a free, confidential support service offering help through phone, text, web, social and counselling. The Mix connects young people to experts and their peers talking about everything from money to exam stress, from self-harm to depression, from break-ups to drugs.

Whatever issue a young person is facing, The Mix is always there for them, providing help, information and support – 24/7 and 365 days a year.
