D&G visit the helpline

Charity Champions from our newest partners, Domestic & General (D&G) visited our helpline centre recently to see the amazing work of our volunteers first hand. We were joined by D&G HR Director, Caroline Huggett, along with charity champions Ana, Justine and Kiran.

Our team leader gave our Champions a tour of the helpline to show them how we work to support thousands of young people in crisis each year. The Champions also had the chance to talk to volunteers about what makes their experience here so rewarding and why it can sometimes be challenging.

D&G Senior International HR Advisor, Ana, says: “It was great getting to know the people that are behind doing such a great job. Having more information about Get Connected has encouraged me to do even more to support them.”

Justine, a Personal Assitant at D&G, says: “It was a great experience. I was shocked at some of the statistics and the range of issues that Get Connected deal with. The biggest issues were mental health and emotional wellbeing, housing and homelessness and families and care. One in five young people who use the service have suicidal thoughts as a way of dealing with stress. The highlight for me was seeing how dedicated the Get Connected team are about making a difference so that these vulnerable people have a place to turn to for help.”

If you want to volunteer for The Mix and help us support even more vulnerable children and young people in crisis each year, take a look at our volunteering pages.

This post was originally part of the Get Connected website. YouthNet and Get Connected merged to form The Mix in 2016.
